Alex Brezovan President

Alex grew up in Red Deer, AB and moved to Halifax for School. He got his Diploma in Engineering at Saint Mary’s University, and is currently a fourth year Mechanical Engineering Student at Dalhousie. After a great experience attending the Atlantic Engineering Competition in his first year, Alex wanted to get involved with ACES. In his second year, he was the VP external for the SMU Engineering Society, and then became the VP Finance for ACES in 2019-20. Alex is looking forward to leading new initiatives for ACES this year, including sponsorship, inclusivity, and professional development. In his free time, Alex enjoys playing soccer, hockey, and going hiking.

As President Alex is responsible for:

  • Overseeing and supporting the duties of the ACES Board of Directors.  

  • Aligning the direction of the organization with member interests. 

  • Representing ACES to relevant external engineering bodies.

Luc Bouvier Atlantic Ambassador

Luc is originally from Moncton, New Brunswick and quickly became too big for his britches upon arriving at UNB in Fredericton. While he first got involved in his EngSoc’s Events Team, he later served in the roles of VP Internal, VP External, and President at UNBF. He is currently the Atlantic Ambassador and is excited to serve the ACES membership. Luc enjoys late-night study sessions with friends and free pizza. You can often find him in his school’s engineering library doing anything other than coursework.

As Atlantic Ambassador Luc is responsible for:

  • Represent ACES to the CFES’ Board of Directors.

  • Keep all ACES members up to date on issues and information from the CFES.

  • Wearing the ACES Sou’ Wester

Colin Bruce VP Communications

Colin was born and raised in Scarborough, ON and currently lives in Wolfville, NS. Some of his favourite hobbies include riding his motorcycle, camping, hiking and 3D printing. Colin started his engsoc involvement as a First Year Representative for the AcadiaU Engineering Society (AUES). After that, he became VP External and later Co-President of AUES. He is really looking forward to planning a wonderful, equitable and inclusive  conference as the CDE 2021 Co-Chair.

As VP Communications Colin is responsible for:

  • Leading the development of the annual ACES Handbook. 

  • Compiling and distributing ACES newsletters to provide updates on BoD progress.

  • Maintaining and ensuring regular activity on ACES social media and communication platforms. 

  • Overseeing the ACES IT Commissioner.

Dave Worth VP Finance

Dave is a fourth year Mechanical Engineering student at Dalhousie University. Prior to Dal, Dave received his diploma in engineering from St. Francis Xavier University. While at StFX, Dave was the President of the Engineering Society. During his term, he successfully made the society official as it is now recognized by the school and the Student Union. In his spare time, Dave enjoys playing hockey, spike ball and golf.

As VP Finance Dave is responsible for:

  • Collecting and managing all membership fees and monies of ACES. 

  • Developing the annual ACES operating budget and keeping accurate records of all financial transactions. 

  • Actively seeking corporate sponsorship. 

  • Ensuring proper recording of conference finances.

Cassie Pitchford VP Services

Cassie is in her 6th year of mechanical engineering at UNB Fredericton. Cassie's love for engineering began when she 3D printed a prosthetic hand controlled by myoelectric sensors for her high school physics class which has since been internationally recognized! Since Cassie began to lose her hearing in her first year, she has worked to make the engineering community a more inclusive place for her peers with disabilities. She has been very active in the engineering community by serving as UNB Diversity Within Engineering's VP Inclusivity since January 2018 in addition to speaking and organizing regional and national conferences. When Cassie doesn't have a textbook in one hand and a box of tissues in the other, you can find her cracking jokes, boxing, and trying out new recipes

As VP Services Cassie is responsible for:

  • ACES Events (AGM, AEC, ELS)

  • Outreach to Professional Organizations and Schools

  • Educational & Professional Development Services for Members

  • Overlooks the bilingualism working group

Emilie Landry Head Bilingualism Commissioner

Émilie Landry is an Acadian born and raised in Fredericton, NB. She just completed her degree in mechanical engineering at the Université de Moncton in May 2020 and now works as an EIT at a consulting engineering firm. During her degree, Émilie was heavily involved in many clubs and committees as well as UdeM’s engineering society where she had the opportunity to attend various ACES events. She enjoyed those events so much that she decided to keep getting involved with ACES even after her degree and looks forward to improving ACES’ bilingualism standards. Engineering aside, Émilie enjoys karaoke, spikeball, and confusing people with her Chiac expressions.

As Bilingualism Commissioner Émilie is responsible for:

  • Manage communication between ACES and U de M.

  • Support the AEC Organizing Committee with translation of materials.

  • Translate ACES documents and social media content

Mark O’Connor Chair

Mark O’Connor is going into his third year of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, after spending his first two years at the UNB Campus in his hometown of Saint John. As President of the Engineering Society at UNBSJ, he had the opportunity to get involved with ACES and the CFES, and is looking forward to staying involved as Chair for ACES, and VP Communications for the Canadian Engineering Competition being hosted by UNB in 2021 and 2022! He enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee, doing graphic design, and staying busy.

As Chair Mark is responsible for:

  • Organizing a team to plan the Annual General Meeting.

  • Communicating between ACES, the hosting university’s Administration and Engineering Society, and sponsors.

  • Ensuring that all accommodations, meals, and events are planned, funded, and appropriate.

Ellen Jansen Small School Engagement Commissioner

Ellen grew up on a farm in Seaforth, ON and and immediately fell in love with the east coast after a family trip. She loves swimming and being near the water anytime of the year! She completed her Dip. Eng at St. FX where she held the VP Finance position for the engineering society in second year and attended AEC and ELS. She is currently in her fourth year of environmental engineering at Dalhousie and is very excited for the year ahead being on co-op and involved with ACES!

As Small School Engagement Commissioner Ellen is responsible for:

  • Maintaining points of contact between ACES and the small schools.

  • Holding bi-monthly meetings to assist and assess challenges within engineering societies.

  • Creating and organizing transition documents for small school engineering societies.

Bridget Patterson IT Commissioner

Bridget is a second year Sustainable Design Engineering Student at the University of Prince Edward Island. Bridget grew up on PEI and got involved with the UPEI EngSoc as a First Year Representative and attended the CFES Canadian Engineering Leadership Conference and ACES ELS. From there she decided to get involved with the ACES team. Bridget is VP Communications for the Atlantic Engineering Competition 2021 being hosted at UPEI. She is also VP Communications for the UPEI Engineering Society for the 2020-2021 academic year. When she isn’t studying or participating in engineering extracurriculars, Bridget is a competitive cheerleader for the UPEI Panthers and a competitive step-dancer.

As IT Commissioner Bridget is responsible for:

  • Maintaining and updating the ACES website and social media platforms

  • Ensuring that relevant information can be easily accessed on the ACES Member Share Drive, and on the ACES website

  • Any other duties relating to the electronic infrastructure of ACES

Emily Veinot Bilingualism Comm.

Emilie is a French Canadian originally from Moncton, NB, where she is currently studying mechanical engineering at the Université de Moncton. Emilie started her involvement as the Mechanical Engineering Student representative for de UdeM Engineering Student Society. She was elected the following year as the VP Internal and currently, she is the President. Emilie spends most of her spare time outdoors mountain biking, backpacking, surfing and skiing

Rowan Pratt-Dupuis Bilingualism Comm.

Rowan (Ruadhán) Natasha Pratt — an artist originally from Ottawa, ON — is going into her third year of Civil Engineering at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, after first completing her Diploma of Engineering. She is excited to finally utilize her 15 years of French education as a Bilingualism Commissioner on ACES, and to collaborate with the Bilingualism working team. She is also looking forward to her continued involvement in engineering societies as VP Communications for DUES and VP Diversity & Inclusivity for Jack.orgDalEng; as well as her role as Co-Organizer for TEDxDalhousieU and Co-Chair for CDE2021. Empowered by her neurodiverse community and LGBTQ2S+ family, her ultimate goal working on societies is to create true long-term change concerning inclusivity, equity, diversity and awareness. To recharge, she enjoys dancing, immersing herself in nature and playing with her dog, Merlin.

Caroline Stephen AGM Co-Chair

Caroline (she/her) is originally from Rothesay, New Brunswick and completed her first two years of mechanical engineering at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John. She is now heading into her 4th year at UNB Fredericton, also taking minors in math and business. Caroline’s experience includes being President of the UNBSJ Undergraduate Engineering Society, VP Internal on the UNB EUS in Fredericton, and she is now the current UNB EUS Senior Advisor. She was the ACES AGM Chair in 2018 and is looking forward to co-chairing ACES AGM in 2020 and the Canadian Engineering Competition in 2021 (online) and 2022 at UNB! In her spare time, Caroline enjoys participating in competitive dance as well as teaching, participating in musicals and most recently, she has started boxing. She loves meeting new people, learning from others and is very excited to have such unique opportunities this year with ACES and the CFES!

Jayme Girouard AGM Co-Chair

Jayme (she/her) is from Saint John, NB and did her first two years of engineering at UNBSJ. Going into her third year, she has transferred to UNB Fredericton to continue her degree in Chemical Engineering. Jayme started her engineering society involvement in her first year where she was the APEGNB Representative. That year she attended CELC, at the time called CFES Congress, and decided to continue her involvement in second year as the VPX. After a year full of travel across Canada in that position, British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta and Nova Scotia, she decided to step back from a society role and try being a part of the organizing committee for a conference. Now, she is the VP Competitions of the 2021 Canadian Engineering Competition and the Co-Chair for ACES AGM 2020! Some of Jayme's favorite things to do are hike, spend time with friends and explore new places. In Jayme's opinion, the best part about organizing a conference to is being able to meet so many new people and create opportunities for others.

Sydney Wheatley AEC Chair

Sydney Wheatley grew up in Warren Grove, PE on a small family farm. She is currently entering her third year of Sustainable Design Engineering at the University of Prince Edward Island. Since the beginning of her post-secondary education, she has worn a few different hats on UPEI’s engineering society, but most recently holds the position of VP External. Sydney can usually be found studying, working, or playing with her two dogs. Last but certainly not least, she is very excited to be chairing the Atlantic Engineering Competition in 2021 and to create a memorable experience for all!

As AEC Chair Sydney is responsible for:

  • Leading a team to organize the Atlantic Engineering Competition

  • Managing the quality of the events, accomodations, etc. to ensure a successful event

  • Overlooking all aspects of scheduling, budgeting to track the progress of planning keeping the event on budget

Stephanie Cater ELS Co-Chair

Stephanie Cater grew up just outside St. John’s Newfoundland in Portugal Cove-St. Phillips. She is currently starting her third year of Mechanical Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland and has held both Junior and Senior VP External positions on the MUN B Engineering Society. When Stephanie is not working or studying you can find her outside enjoying the beautiful Newfoundland scenery in any way possible. She is so excited for MUN to host ELS 2021!

Billy Barnes

ELS Co-Chair

Billy Barnes is a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is involved with MUN B's Engineering Society as the current President, previously having held the Jr. Vp of Finance role. Billy grew up within beautiful Gros Morne National Park, where he spent most of his free time hiking, kayaking, and skiing. He also enjoys classic rock music and tasty craft beers. Billy is extremely excited to host ELS 2021 and provide an educational experience for students!
