Mark O’Connor
President
Mark O’Connor (he/him) is currently in his fourth year of Electrical engineering with computer option at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, but started his time at UNB at the campus in Saint John. As president of ACES, he is looking forward to working with the schools and meeting all of the new members. When not working with ACES, Mark is involved with planning CEC, playing Ultimate, and longboarding around Fredericton. Any questions about ACES in general he would be happy to answer.
As President Mark is responsible for:
Overseeing and supporting the duties of the ACES Board of Directors.
Aligning the direction of the organization with member interests.
Representing ACES to relevant external engineering bodies.
Jayme Girouard
Atlantic Ambassador
Jayme (she/elle) is in her 4th year of Chemical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick and is the Atlantic Ambassador on the ACES Executive. She represents the Atlantic Region on a national level to the rest of the CFES Officers and is the liaison between the CFES and its member schools in the Atlantic Region. Currently, Jayme is taking a break from her studies to do 16 months of COOP and gain some hands on experience before graduating. Outside of ACES she is on the organizing committee for the Canadian Engineering Competition as the VP Competitions and enjoys trying new restaurants, being outdoors and reading. As Atlantic Ambassador Jayme is responsible for:
Represent ACES to the CFES’ Board of Directors.
Keep all ACES members up to date on issues and information from the CFES.

Rose He
VP Communications
Rose He (she/her) is in her second year of Electrical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick and is the VP Communications for ACES for the 2021-22 year. Despite experiencing her first year of university through a screen, she was inspired to get more involved in the engineering community after competing in the virtual Atlantic and Canadian Engineering Competitions! Outside of school, Rose is a passionate environmentalist, major foodie, and avid longboarder. She loves meeting new people, and is always open for a chat!
As VP Communications Rose is responsible for:
Compiling and distributing ACES newsletters to provide updates
Maintaining and ensuring regular activity on ACES social media and communication platforms.
Overseeing the ACES IT Commissioner.
Emily Veinot
VP Finance
Emily (she/her/elle) is a 3rd year mechanical engineering student at Dalhousie University who is originally from the acadian community of Clare, Nova Scotia. As the VP Finance, Emily hopes to improve financial documentation and create a smoother transitional process for the future VP Finances of ACES. Outside of ACES, Emily is an engineering ambassador on behalf of the Canadian Memorial Engineering Foundation and acts as a public speaker at Canadian high schools to inspire youth to pursue careers in engineering. She also loves being with her friends and spending time outdoors through camping, hiking, kayaking, and skiing
As VP Finance Emily is responsible for:
Collecting and managing all membership fees and monies of ACES.
Developing the annual ACES operating budget and keeping accurate records of all financial transactions.
Actively seeking corporate sponsorship.
Ensuring proper recording of conference finances.
Brandon Saulnier
VP Services
Brandon (He/Him/Il) is going into his fourth year of mechanical engineering as a proud UNB Fredericton student, who is also taking two minors, (social psychology and electrical engineering.) Since his first involvement in ACES at the 2019 AGM, he was hooked on being an active student leader, serving as VPF for AEC 2020, VP External for UNBF and VP finance for CEC 2021. Brandon is super excited for this upcoming year within ACES as the Third official VP services. Stay Safe and smile often!!

Erin Burke
Advocacy and Outreach Commissioner
Erin (she/elle) is a second year mechanical engineering student at SMU, also planning to major in astrophysics. She became involved last year as a first year rep on the SMU Engineering Society, which led her to compete in AEC 2021 and get elected as the society’s VP External this year. She’s excited to participate in lots more conferences and competitions this year, and act as ACES’s Advocacy and Outreach Commissioner! Outside of school, Erin lifeguards to play in the waves and build sandcastles, hikes, and does some woodworking.
Advocacy and Outreach commissioner responsibilities include:
Develop stances to be voted and approved by members
Communicate regularly with the ACES membership regarding advocacy-related concerns and assistance
Develop resources to assist members in their advocacy to their respective schools
Colin Silver
Small School Engagement Commissioner
Colin Silver (he/him) is in his third year of Electrical Engineering at Dalhousie University and is this year's Small School Engagement comminitioner. His previous experience as the president of the Saint Mary’s Engineering Society inspired him to apply for this role. In this role Colin is excited to connect with all the small schools in the Atlantic region and help them overcome the challenges associated with small engineering societies. When not working with ACES or studying for his courses Colin enjoys playing basketball and going to coffee shops. Anyone with questions about running or getting involved with their local engineering society can reach out to Colin.
Small School Engagement Commissioner Responsibilities Include:
Maintaining points of contact between ACES and the small schools.
Holding bi-monthly meetings to assist and assess challenges within engineering societies.
Creating and organizing transition documents for small school engineering societies.
Hunter Bell
IT Commissioner
Hunter (he/him) is a fourth year Electrical Engineering student at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. He obtained the position of IT Commissioner in ACES for 2021-2022. Hunter looks forward to meeting and exchanging views with a diverse group of engineering students within Atlantic Canada, as well as potentially making new friends along the way. When Hunter is not working on ACES he prefers to spend his time laughing at his own jokes, learning new yoyo tricks, and expanding his ever growing collection of mechanical pencils and pens. Hunter is always up for a chat, so if you're feeling spontaneous don't be afraid to reach out to him on social media.
IT Commissioner responsibilities include:
Maintaining and updating the ACES website and social media platforms
Ensuring that relevant information can be easily accessed on the ACES Member Share Drive, and on the ACES website
Any other duties relating to the electronic infrastructure of ACES
Mikkayla Ellsworth-Reid
Bilingualism Commissioner
Mikkayla (she/her/elle) is a second year student in the Sustainable Design Engineering program at UPEI, Prince Edward Island. This is her first year being involved with ACES in the role of Bilingualism Commissioner. Mikkayla has been speaking French for 13 years and is excited to be a part of a team where she can use this knowledge to further benefit other engineering students. She enjoys reading and film and has worked at a summer camp for 6 years in various roles.
Bilingualism commissioner responsibilities include:
Manage communication between ACES and U de M.
Support the AEC Organizing Committee with translation of materials.
Translate ACES documents and social media content
Nazli Akpinar
EDI Commissioner
Nazli (she/her) is an international student from Istanbul, Turkey. She moved to Cape Breton, NS for grade eleven and twelve as an exchange student. She completed her first two years of engineering at StFX and she will continue her education at Dalhousie this fall to complete her degree in industrial engineering. She has worked on many projects, in and out of school, to create safe and inclusive learning environments and events for students. She can not wait to work as the EDI commissioner this year!
EDI Commissioner Responsibilities Include:
Ensure each new ACES executive and commissioner undergo EDI training
Promote allyship and regular engagement with social issues
Engage with Activity Chairs to ensure the Activities are inclusive

ACES has three annual conferences, each hosted by a different member school.
AGM Chair
AGM Chair responsibilities include:
Organizing a team to plan the Annual General Meeting.
Communicating between ACES, the hosting university’s Administration and Engineering Society, and sponsors.
Ensuring that all accommodations, meals, and events are planned, funded, and appropriate.
AEC Chair
AEC Chair responsibilities include:
Leading a team to organize the Atlantic Engineering Competition
Managing the quality of the events, accomodations, etc. to ensure a successful event
Overlooking all aspects of scheduling, budgeting to track the progress of planning keeping the event on budget
ELS Chair
ELS Chair Responsibilities include:
Organizing a team to plan the Engineering Leadership Summit.
Communicating between ACES, the hosting university’s Administration and Engineering Society, and sponsors.
Ensuring that all accommodations, meals, and events are planned, funded, and appropriate.
